Grade 3 Wax Museum

It’s here!!! Our 6th Annual Grade 3 Wax Museum!  Before you do anything, put May 29th on your calendar, as we will have a dress rehearsal during the school day, and our museum will open at 6:30 that evening…

Available below are the requirements, rubrics, and other support materials.  If there is something else you need added to this page, let me know and I’ll put it up.  This is a big project, and students will need support both in the classroom and at home.  The payoff is HUGE — wait until you see what these kids are capable of! VERY exciting!!

Susan Butcher, Norman Rockwell, Amelia Earhart

Nancy Kerrigan, Paul Revere, Jane Goodall

Ted Williams, John F. Kennedy, Jr., Benjamin Franklin

  • Ruby!!!:

I can’t wait for the living wax museum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to be either Jonny Appleseed, John F. Kennedy, or Edgar Allen Poe.
If you could do it who would you be???

    From Ruby!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I am now somewhere in chapter fourteen.

    • Hi Ruby,

Those sound great — I’ve never had anyone do Edgar Allen Poe. Another great choice is Temple Grandin – that is who I would pick if I had the choice. Kendyl & Carson watched her movie this past week and were impressed by her.

Chapter 14?? I will have to get another book ready for you soon!! I’m glad you are enjoying it!!

      Miss you today!
      Mrs. Brooks

  • Ruby!!!:

I’ve been reading all morning and now im at chapter 20!
It’s such a great book, I just couldn’t put it down!!!

  • You are a super reader! Keep up the good work!!! Can’t wait to hear your book talk.

    See you tomorrow,
    Mrs. Brooks

  • Ruby!!!:

Hi!!! I finished the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT was an awesome book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Ruby,

You made me think of when I was your age and my parents could never get my nose out of a book. They would call me for dinner 2 and 3 times, and sometimes I still didn’t hear them. I loved to read then, and I still do now.

I’m so glad you enjoyed Ruby, Ruby!

      Mrs. Brooks

  • Dear Mrs.brooks I am so excited for the wax museum I am going to be clara barton .I know alittle about her she died april 12 1912 .HAVE A GREAT VACATION. fromAundria

  • Hi Aundria!!

I miss you already!! I remember when Monique was in the Wax Museum and she looked beautiful as Rosa Parks. I can’t wait to see how you put together your Clara Barton presentation. Clara believed in helping other people, and I know that is something that is important to you. I think you will do an amazing job.

Lots of practice – but I KNOW you can do it!!!

PS: Clara Barton died 2 days before the Titanic sank – isn’t that amazing??

Enjoy your vacation with your family!!

  • isabelle:

I think this is going to be so fun! I am being Louisa May Alcott. She is a writer, and she wrote Little Woman. My mom loves that book!

    See you tomorrow :)

  • I agree that Louisa May Alcott is a great choice – and Little Women is a great book, based on her own family. Wax Museum is a very memorable experience, I hope you enjoy every minute.

    See you tomorrow!
    Mrs. Brooks

  • isabelle:

    Thank You!! :)

  • Ruby:

I went to the media lab at m.i.t,but we ended up exploring most of it. My favorite part was the ping-pong place. Thats a big room with a ping pong table, along with balls and the racket thingies that you hit the ball with. there is a projector above it that makes pictures of fish swimming around. the cool thing is that when you hit the table where there’s a group of fish they get scared and swim away!!!!

    See you on monday!

    Ruby ;)

  • Ruby!!! That is so very cool! I hope you took pictures – I’d love to see! We missed you today, but I’m so glad you had a great visit at MIT – I’ll always remember my visit there, too!!

This is the lab I visited when I went there in 3rd grade:

I can still remember meeting Doc Edgerton!!!

OOOHHH — I just Googled what you described and I think I found a video of it! It’s called Ping Pong Plus?

    Have a super weekend,
    Mrs. Brooks

  • Laura Haselton:

    Good Morning!

I am a 3rd grade teacher in Newport News, VA. I love the Publisher document you made for your students. I was wondering if you would be willing to share? Thank you!

    • Suzy Brooks:

Hi Laura, I put it together in Word a few years ago – but now that I have a new Mac, the formatting is all wonky. I’m happy to send it along to you, but I’m not sure how it’ll look on your end.

      I’ll email it off shortly,
      Thank you!

  • Summer Steele:

Hello! I am wanting to do this project with my 2nd grade GT class for President’s Day. Is there any way that I can get a copy of this sent to me? I’d appreciate it! I can’t wait to do this idea with my kiddos! Great idea and very creative!

  • Summer Steele:

Hello! Is there any way I can get a copy of this in Word? I am wanting to do this project with my kiddos in GT for President’s Day. I am so excited!

  • Suzy Brooks:

    Hi Summer,
Thanks for the comments – I just sent off those Word docs to your email. Good luck to you and your 2nd grade friends!
    Take care,

  • Nicky Page:

Hi there! I’m getting ready to do my first living wax museum with my third graders and would love anything a veteran curator like you could send me! Thanks in advance! :)

  • Hi! Apologies if this request is duplicated…

Will you please email Word docs to me? I’m getting ready to do my first wax museum with my third graders. Thanks so much! :)

    • Suzy Brooks:

      Hi Nicky,
I just sent off those word docs to the email you used for this comment. Since moving to a new computer, the formatting in the documents do not open correctly in my computer anymore. So, I’m not sure what they will look like on your end or how useful they will be. I hope your Wax Museum goes well!
      Take care,
