Happy Father’s Day to all families!

I hope you have the chance to spend some quality time with your father, grandfathers, etc.  I cannot believe it is already June 19th!!!!  Two days until summer vacation!  Somehow it doesn’t seem possible that the school year is done and you will all be going to Morse Pond in the fall.  I know you will all be extremely successful and have enormous amounts of fun in fifth grade.  Thank you for an amazing year….it has been such a pleasure being your teacher!

Make sure to come and visit me at Mullen Hall next year!

We had a fantastic Cinco de Mayo!  We made sombreros, did the mexican hat dance, and learned tons about Mexico!  Check out the great video I posted of our dancing. Mexican Hat Dance!! Also, yesterday we were able to practice the fourth grade concert in front of the whole school.  I took a video of it all but haven’t quite figured out how to get it on the blog (it’s a big video!).

I can’t believe it’s already the middle of May.  We have been working very hard to prepare for the Math MCAS next week (17th and 18th).  We are in need of some healthy snacks for the class, so if you could donate it would be greatly appreciated!

Ahhh it’s finally starting to feel like Spring!  With the warm weather comes a busy few months ahead of us.  We are going to the Hurricane Presentation tomorrow, the Science Museum on May 24th, and Woods Hole in June.  We are going to have so much fun!

Take a look at the two new tabs at the top of the blog.  I added some new pages to post all of the amazing photos from the art show and egg drop.

I hope you are all having fun working on your Rally Car Projects.  They must include at least one simple machine and are due in school by Friday, May 13th.  I can’t wait to see them all go down the ramp!  Sleep well and I’ll see you all tomorrow!!!

Hello Fourth-Graders!!

I hope you are all having a fantastic April vacation!  I heard about this fun website from Mrs. Brooks where you can create your own newspaper clippings.  Check out the first one I tried below.  Very fun!  I have been very busy this week finishing up my homework (yes, even teachers have homework!) for my graduate school classes.  I will be graduating in a few weeks with my Master’s Degree in Special Education.  Wahoo!

Important Dates: May 2nd – Field trip to Otis Air Base for Hurricane Presentation, May 17 & 18 – Math MCAS, and May 24th – Field trip to the Museum of Science in Boston ( we need chaperones for this field trip who will be willing to drive to Boston)

Hello engineers!

St. Patrick’s Day was by far the best holiday to date!  You all did a phenomenal job constructing your leprechaun traps.  I still can’t believe they came to visit our classroom and were being so mischievous all day!  I am adding two new pages to the top of the website (Science Fair and Leprechaun Traps) filled with pictures from the past month.

The Science Fair was such a hit!  You all worked very hard and I was so happy that many families came to view your projects.  It was a wonderful day and you all did such professional presentations of your data.  Great work boys and girls!!

We have many field trips coming up in the next few months.  Our first trip will be to the Heritage Museum in April, then we will be going to see an actual Hurricane Plane in May, as well as the Boston Museum of Science on May 24th.  In June we will be taking a field trip to Woods Hole.  Sometime this week you will be getting a notice with all of the field trip specifics.

Another piece of exciting news is that we have a new student joining our class!!!  His name is Koichi and he is from Japan.  We are so glad to have another friend joining us tomorrow.  Welcome Koichi!!!

Scholastic book orders are due this Friday, March 25th.  Every book that is ordered online earns our class a free book!  Don’t forget to check out the two new picture pages!

Hello Artists!

We had such a wonderful time at our field trip to the Cotuit Center for the Arts.  I uploaded all of the pictures.  They are on a separate page named Cotuit Center for the Arts at the top of this blog.  We were all so proud to see a piece of artwork by our very own Mrs. Benton at the exhibit! 

This past Wednesday was Camp Read-A-Lot.  Our class has worked very hard to earn this privelage and it was a great day.  Students wore their pjs and had a day full of reading and other activities.  Nice job boys and girls!

Carly Kogut was one of our stars of the week and she had a great time with Hermie.  Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day so don’t forget your Valentines and get ready for a day of love!

Hello Peacebuilders!

We’ve been very busy over the past few weeks with learning extended multiplication, science fair preparations, our super bubble experiment, the southeast region, and even a snow day thrown into the mix!  You are all working very hard and it definately shows.  Tomorrow is the halfway mark of fourth grade.  Oh my!!  It feels like yesterday that I was greeeting you on the first day of school.  Julia Zaino and Rohan Curran have been two great stars of the week for our class.  Next week will be Carly Kogut. 

I have some great pictures to share with you all.  There are some snowy pictures from recess last week, some pictures of the stars of the week, your candy inventions, and some pictures from our peacebuilders assembly on Friday.  Don’t forget to explain “being a bucket-filler” to your families!  I hope you all had a restful weekend, as we have lots to learn and an exciting field trip to the Cotuit Arts Center on Wednesday (Thank you to the parents who are driving us!).  Sleep well and see you in the morning!!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend.  I sure am!  This week was very short, with the snow day and professional development day.  We’ll try to go back on track next week.  We’ve had some great Stars of the Week.  I hope you enjoy the pictures of them below. 

Something exciting happened on Thursday night.  I brought Hermie home for the long weekend and put him in my living room.  I went upstairs for a little bit and when I came down to check on him he had CHANGED SHELLS!!!  I couldn’t believe it.  I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.  He was getting very small for the spiderman shell and now he has lots of room in his spacious football shell (just in time for the superbowl)! I wish I could have seen him switch.  According to the book, hermit crabs are very vulnerable when they change shells, so they do it very quickly when no one is around.

Hi Everyone!  By now you all hopefully know that school has been cancelled for today.  Unfortunately that means our field trip is also cancelled.  Miss Tabaracci and I will try our hardest to get the trip rescheduled.  Like we discussed about the possibilities in class, we will not be having our Reading or Spelling tests this week because of the snow day.  We will still have our Math test tomorrow if there is school.  For now, just enjoy your day off, play in the snow, and have a wonderful and relaxing day!  Hopefully we’ll see each other tomorrow!!

Hello Snowflakes!

I cannot believe it is already the end of December!!!  We have been up to so  much in room 303, from Gingerbread Geometry to Animal Adaptations Journals to the first snowfall!  I have a million pictures that I would like to share with you.  I am going to create another page with all of the pictures for you to view (it will be a tab called “December”at the top of the blog).  Our class earned extra recess this Monday and we had the pleasure of playing out in the snowstorm!  What fun!! There are some great pictures to come!

We have had a few stars of the week this month:  Joshua Lopes and Julia Lima, and Jacob Murphy will be the first star of the new year.  The Gingerbread Engineering monuments and structures are going to be on display at the Falmouth Public Library starting this Thursday.  Bring your friends and families to see what an amazing job the fourth graders did.  Their detail and hard work really shines in this creative project.  I hope you and your families all have an amazing holiday and winter break.  See you all in the new year!!!
