Sunday, November 29th, 2009

We are learning to add larger numbers using partial sums.

This is a method for addition that focuses on place value. For an explanation on how to do it, please see this video from Everyday Math:

Where in the Great Big World?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

It’s been a fun week learning our place in this world. If you get a chance, try zooming in on Google Earth, like we did in the computer lab. Start with our continent, then do our country, next enter our state, after that, our town, and finally- your street and house number.

One Chopped-Up Week

Monday, November 9th, 2009

This week we have school on Monday & Tuesday and then Thursday & Friday. There is no school on Wednesday so that we can observe Veteran’s Day. Maybe you’ll be involved in the town’s ceremony, or maybe you’ll go to watch.

We will still pack a lot into our four days of school. Tonight (Monday) the homework was to read and study spelling. Both the regular and the challenge lists are up on Spellingcity.com under Turtle’s Race With Beaver. Unfortunately Spellingcity wouldn’t accept my name as the 10th word on the challenge list, so you’ll just have to learn that r-controlled one on your own!

One final reminder- please, Please, PLEASE wash your hands OFTEN! We all want to stay healthy, Healthy, HEALTHY!
