Sunday morning in Canarana

The pizza buffet last night was not a buffet but the waiters just kept bringing different pizzas to us (ridizio  – pronounced ho – geez – ee- o). I ate too much but it was hard to stop. Flavors included; garlic & oil, tomato, basil & cheese, hard boiled egg, onion & ham, chopped tomatoes, green peas, and hamburg or sausage, creamed corn & chz (didn’t have that one), french fried onions (or potato strings) & hamburg, coconut & evap milk n cheese, chocolate sprinkles & cheese, 2  different ones with fruit & evap milk…. and more. All with cheese but no tomato sauce on any. Tried the Brazilian drink Caipirinha (with cachacha – pronounced cashasa). They serve beer really,  really cold and in a xlge coozie.

This morning we had cafe at the hotel, sat by the pool and swapped pictures with Kathleen & Paul. I’m blogging, Kathleen is writing up the “field notes” for WHRC and Paul is making me a map of Tanguro labeled with my pictures where they were taken.

The barbecue at Osvalwo’s is at noonish – will add more later.

Sox make any deadline trades?

My late-night random thoughts: Caught up on your blogs. Continue to find them interesting. You write so much detail which helps transport the reader to your location. Glad you are seeing some jungle creatues and learning from your experience. Nice to meet new people who are sharing this experience with you. One thing about travel – you totally escape from the outside world. The political parties have come to a last minute deal on the debt ceiling. I feel so cynical about the whole political process. The Patriots hired two talented players with questionable histories (Randy Moss types)hoping they can become team players. Laura and Aimee tied at cards. Will have cards at Laura’s place this week if we get four people. Spent the day kayaking at Nauset Marsh – one of the prettiest places on Cape Cod. Read you took a little kayak trip of your own. This will be a great scientific/human experience to share with your students.

Mmmmm sounds good! Did you like the caipirinha? I remember my señora really liked them and I told her that I’d have you try one someday…but I forgot about that until now. They say that cachasa makes people naturally jolly and that’s why Brazilians are always so happy.

Also, I can start my computer in safe mode so all my files are recoverable and I just bought a new laptop (because I have a job!) so all’s good there.

Any chance you can get on skype while you’re still there? Your pictures have been really cool to see! Everyone at the restaurant was really impressed by the termite mound. Hasta luego

Also I just re-read this and am pretty sure I wrote “your pictures” but my phone must have auto-corrected it to somethig wrong. I graduated college, I swear.

Caipirinha was really sour and not too tasty – I’ve been assured that they’re better in Rio. Will try again. No skype – can’t always rely on connection and this computer woud not Skype when I was in the dining room and Dan was in the living room!

Hey Celeste…love reading the blogs….keep up the good work! As for your Red Sox update..here it is: The Boston Red Sox have added a much-needed starter after an earlier trade fell through, acquiring oft-injured left-hander Erik Bedard from the Seattle Mariners in a three-team trade.
The Red Sox, whose deal for Oakland’s Rich Harden fell apart late Saturday night, also got right-hander Josh Fields, a 2008 first-round draft pick.
Boston sent catcher Tim Federowicz and right-handers Juan Rodriguez and Stephen Fife to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who dealt OF Trayvon Robinson and OF Chih-Hsien Chiang to the Red Sox.
The Red Sox then sent those two prospects to Seattle.

Thanks! Gonna get you a “big Jesus” magnet from Rio to add to your collection (or is that not PC for public school?)
